Three members of Pakistan International Airline (PIA) cockpit crew have received Sitara-e-Shujaat (Civil Gallantry Award) for depicting highest level of responsibility, presence of mind and professional acumen on board PIA flight PK-305 Lahore-Karachi Sector. These members of cockpit crew were conferred the award in a ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr in lieu of Pakistan Day (23rd March) celebrations, said of press release of PIA on Friday.
According to details, PIA flight PK-305 on May 25th 2001 underwent midair emergency due to failure of a portion of rear pressure bulkhead. As a result, main hydraulic system of aircraft failed and other flight controls were nearly jammed.
However, the crew responded to the emergency very well and brought safely the aircraft to 8000 feet from its cruising height of over 28000 feet in few minutes. The cockpit crew headed by Captain Munawar Javaid and others First Officer Khurram Butt and Flight Engineer Zaheer Subhani did a remarkable job with regard to multiple emergency situations and averted a near disaster with great presence of mind to save precious lives of passengers and crew on board.-PR
